Rigidized® Metals Sculpture Pays Homage to Indigenous Heritage

Gastowë’

Over the past decade, Rigidized® Matals has collaborated with the Seneca community on various arts and cultural events. In 2021, we commissioned Seneca performing and visual artist, Bill Crouse, to create a sculpture at the Došyowëh (meaning “between the basswoods”, which reflects the original name for the land around Buffalo Creek) trailhead at neighboring Silo City. Bill designed a traditional Seneca headdress, or Gastowë’, using Rigidized® stainless steel in three separate patterns, complemented by the Hiawatha Belt representing the original five Haudenosaunee Nations. Our amazing fabrication team brought Bill’s vision to life, creating a stunning tribute to the “Keepers of the Western Door.” In June of 2024, we unveiled the Gastowë’ sculpture at Rigidized® Metals. Members of the Seneca Nation welcomed the sculpture, and what it represents, with dance, song and celebration.
